Marx argued that social and political disharmony would vanish under communism. What methods have communist governments used to ensure Marx’s vision of harmony?

When the Bolsheviks took power, Lenin put into practice Marx's vision of harmony through what he called as the 'dictatorship of the proletariat'. In real terms, this is the dictatorship of the Communist Party, being the 'vanguard' of the proletariat, giving it absolute power to shape the economic direction and political structure of the USSR, and transform the culture and ideology of its people. Having harmony is achieved by this adherence to a single ideology. Naturally, this can only be achieved through propaganda, education, coercion and finally through violence by eliminating those who differ otherwise.

Interesting. Didn’t the Roman Catholic Church (which I admire greatly) successfully manage Europe through its darkest days with this same approach?
