How the Constitution Prevents Socialism

How does federalism protect individual liberties?

Responses

Federalism as I understand it, diffuses power from the federal government to the states and to lesser extent municipalities. The states themselves are individual sovereign entities, at the time of the founding certain states rights were rendered unto the federal government with defined uses, those rights not clearly enumerated by the constitution are reserved to the states.
