What is a cyber-attack?
A cyberattack is any type of offensive ploy employed by countries, individuals, groups, or organizations that targets computer information systems, infrastructures, computer networks, and/or personal computer devices. It uses a malicious code to steal, alter, or destroy a specified target.
How is a cyber attack different from a conventional attack?
Unlike a conventional attack, cyber attacks are unexpected and sudden. As a result, nations aren't given enough warning time to prepare and increase their defenses. In addition, retaliation takes time because identifying the origin of cyber attacks is often difficult.
While it is easy to identify who has been affected by a conventional attack, victims of cyber attacks don't always know they've been attacked, since many breaches are discovered months after they occur. It is also difficult to protect critical infrastructure since every sector has created their own security protocols, making defense coordination difficult.
