Foreign Aid vs. Foreign Trade: Reinventing America’s African Strategy

The data are clear: China far outpaces the United States in foreign trade, foreign investment, and infrastructure financing across Africa. Although the United States leads in humanitarian efforts and foreign aid assistance, more must be done to compete with China’s rising influence on the continent. Real commitment through strategic investments in infrastructure and economic partnerships with African nations are the necessary first steps if the United States does not wish to be seen as an unreliable partner and push Africa into China’s welcoming arms.
